Da Vinci: Shaping the Future

The exhibition focuses on a journey through the work and legacy of the most celebrated artist and scientist of all time, Leonardo da Vinci and his largest notebook the Codex Atlanticus, which becomes the focal point of the exhibition. Featuring groundbreaking designs, artistic sketches, and pioneering technological innovations, the Codex Atlanticus is the basis for an exploration of five key areas of da Vinci’s mastery: mathematics, natural sciences, architecture, technology, and music. Original paintings by the School of da Vinci are presented in the exhibition along with the original pages of the Codex Atlanticus in an infinity mirror room experience. Interwoven throughout the journey are five contemporary art installations that respond to the five key areas, which reveal how da Vinci's ideas and thinking remain strikingly resonant today.

The layouts of the galleries aim to embody the principles of each respective gallery. Mathematics is arranged with a strong geometric alignment whereas natural science is characterized by flowing, dynamic forms. Technology has a more mechanical feel, whilst architecture demonstrates proportion, unity, and harmony. This subtle visual translation of Da Vinci's ideas into physical spaces helps to create a spatial canvas that allows his brilliant ideas and inventions to come to life in this unique experience. The clean, simple lines that characterized the overall aesthetic, also provide the perfect backdrop and environment to showcase the unique contemporary art commissions that serve to convey Da Vinci's legacy today.

Leonardo da Vinci’s mastery of such a diverse range of subjects marks him as the archetypal Renaissance man. Yet his fundamental approach to artistic and scientific studies was far from typical. Unlike his contemporaries, deep respect and fascination with nature were at the core of all da Vinci’s pursuits. He viewed the natural world as a living, profoundly dynamic, and interconnected system, which he relentlessly sought to understand.
